What a great read! This was a really great feel-good story to get me through those January blues. I will say though - I wish we would have found out who broke into Hubert’s house!

This book was such a lovely read. Hubert Bird is an elderly widower who has been lying to his daughter about his active social life. When she tells him she's visiting soon, he quickly needs to find friends to support the lies he's told. The story jumps between past to present day, telling the story of Hubert emigrating from Jamaica, meeting his wife and starting their family. In the present day, he is a cantankerous, lonely old man and does not have much hope for the future. That is, until he meets some fellow lonely neighbors and they begin a campaign to end loneliness.

The narration is excellent.

I sobbed like a baby!!!

It's not easy for a book to make me cry but this one did it aright.
What a beautiful book; tragic, uplifting, humorous and delightful.
I would highly recommend, my first 5 star read for 2024!

Aw, what a wonderful book!

Hubert Bird is an elderly gentleman who lives alone. He has turned his back on people and the outside world. So when his daughter informs him that she's coming all the way from Australia to visit him, Hubert faces a race against time to make his real life resemble the fake life he has been portraying to his daughter.

This story has so much heart, so much sorrow, and so much joy!

The sense of family and community is just bursting with love ❀️

πŸ₯° Wonderful Characters
✨️ A lesson for us all
🏑 Care for your neighbour
❀️ Love, Hope, Joy
πŸ’” Heart ache

⚠️ Mention of drug abuse

A little quote I loved "Even the longest journey starts with a single step."
(So true in many aspects of life!)

I would highly recommend this book!

It's ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me! πŸ€“

I loved it!

I would have given this book an extra star if not for the ending. Where in the world did THAT come from?

This book had me honestly holding back tears. This is so beautifully written and this story will definitely stay with me, exploring themes such as loneliness and grief yet is heartwarming to its core.
