Dot by Randi Zuckerberg, illustrated by Joe Berger
Published in 2013
Age Appropriateness: 4-8 years old
Dot is a child who is tech-savvy. She can surf the web, touch, tap, tweet, swipe, just about anything that has to deal with technology. Her mom pushes her to go outside and to recharge and get fresh air. At first, she is bored, but then she remembers that she can do the same things as on technology. She can touch the grass and flowers, tweet to birds, surf the grass, talk to friends, and swipe paint.
Reading this picture book in class would be a good reminder to students to go outside and not to be on technology all day. Granted, as teachers, we can only show them what exercise and going outside feels like and hope they do it at home. This could be a challenge for teachers, especially with limited time outside as well. We cannot teach our students that they need to be outside, that is what parents are for. Therefore, we can motivate them to go outside.

However, I also don't see why someone would let a toddler play with their tablet, so....
