DNF at 60%. The first part was quite alright, the sex scenes were interesting and the characters seemed to be well fleshed out, so I was enjoying it. I almost DNFed it after the miscommunication trope started (something that I really hate in books), but decided to stick it out and start the second part in hopes that it'd get better. After the unexpected pregnancy trope was also used, I couldn't continue reading and immediately dropped it.

The book felt aggressively american, which is okay, but together with the feeling of self insert that the book gave me, I had to stop reading. The book made me feel millennial cringe at quite a few times, but I understand that that is probably its target audience, so I cannot list it as a flaw, just something I personally didn't like.

These issues are not to say that I didn't enjoy some parts of the book. I thought that the self-esteem issues of both Kallum and Winnie were interesting, and I was hoping for a further delve (which might be in the second part, idk). Her drive to discover her sexuality was endearing to read, and it makes you want to root for her and for their relationship. I enjoyed their dynamic a lot, and I'm just disappointed that the authors had to resort to "misunderstanding" as the conflict point when they could've taken a more nuanced approach and stretched the pinning longer without having to use cheap techniques.

A smaller thing that also irked me:
• The book is trying to show that you can escape purity culture, yet we get a scene where kallum is being called a homewrecker for sleeping with a woman with a bf. He didn't know, therefore he had no blame, yet he is still shamed for Payton's actions? Talk about sex positive scenes. This comes from his sister who the audience is expected to like? And he isn't even angry at her shaming him? Idk, it made me feel like although the author is trying to promote sex-positivity, she doesn't know very well how to do it.
Maybe this is tackled in the second part of the book, but it just made me feel icky.

Overall, good sex scenes and interesting characters, but not the best delivery.

this book started out soooo cute and fun and then…the dreaded pregnancy trope, plus a real slap in the face when there were complications out of the blue

say it with me folks: miscommunication is the worst trope!
this book was fine literally up until then. I always feel like the miscommunication trope is such an obvious trap that so many books fall into when they need a 3rd act conflict.
but besides that, v cute and lighthearted and the kind of sweet that gets stuck in your teeth

SPOILERS

I really liked this book until about 3/4's of the way through.....

THEN she got pregnant. This book was phenomenal in the way it address purity culture, shaming, and breaking down barriers of what you were taught growing up. How the FMC rediscovers who she is and decides how she wants to live her life is great. But, when she all of a sudden get pregnant from the "first time" she has sex outside of marriage? It feels like it goes against EVERYTHING that this book was setup to be.

I really almost DNF'd it but pushed through for basically the plot of the side characters. I enjoyed the first half, which is why I still gave it 3 stars, but was really disappointed in the ending.
