It's been a while since I've been ambivalent about a book, but man, this was a struggle to get through. Which is weird, considering it had all the makings of an excellent read - but I was mostly bored. The characters fell flat to me and the writing wasn't crash hot either. YMMV, though. It felt like it was going nowhere and despite the ending, I can say that I probably won't be reading the next one.

A surprisingly enjoyable romp from the survival tv star.

Equal parts Ludlum, Wilbur Smith and Willard Price, my 12 year old self would likely give this five stars.

Will read the sequel.

I had a copy of this free in a Goodreads giveaway. To be honest, I'm not much of a thriller reader, but my husband loves them, so I entered the giveaway on his behalf.

He's rattled through this in double-quick time. It's a real page-turner and would make a great holiday read. There's no bad language and isn't bogged down with military jargon.

It's the start of a series, and it's definitely left him wanting more. Watch out Dirk Pitt and Jack Reacher, there's a new man on the block.

I think it may have been a combination of overdone writing with overdone narration, but gave in halfway through. I just no longer cared and the phrase alpha male in a book just made me groan.

Not a particularly great book, but a really great narrator who does a lot of different languages and accents. So I kept listening.

(Goodreads Giveaway) Poorly written, and not even believable. The main character goes from being tortured for weeks and not being able to move without it being a huge effort to fighting and trekking through the jungle in what felt like described as a couple days, if that! Will is so inconsistent. Only two of his team members have any personality, the rest are just fillers. He isn't really affected by other characters deaths and things always handily work themselves out. Don't bother with this book.
