I just... could not get into it. I don't care about faffing about in space with some lights when I want a book about wolves.

As the mysterious Shadow builds an army of demons, Grady and his team search desperately for answers. But when they follow up a new lead, it takes them to an old, unexpected foe: the Lambs. Werewolves are on the loose. And they're hungry. This book has an interesting concept and stands well on its own as an individual book in the series. I loved the further exploration of the werewolf storyline and mythology. Wolf Island is told through the point of view of my favorite of the series, Grubbs, but poor Grubbs is definitely going through some bad changes. Leaving some of the group behind for survivals sake, and after a long recap of the previous book, he and a small team follow the trail of the Lambs to an island. The Demonata attacks never grows boring, but Shan changed it up a bit by having a group of werewolves of all things - except these guys shouldn't exist any more. The mystery of this added color to a dark series since betrayals and twists were unleashed along with the claws and violence. I didn't anticipate all of it; it's nice to still be surprised during the eighth book of a series. Shan doesn't shy aware from graphic violence or the bloody bits, but he's rarely told it through such a personalized point of view. I loved the risks that Shan took with changes to Grubbs as a character.

"The world won't end with a bang or a whimper. It'll end with the death screams of a thousand demons and a defiant, carefree, savage, wolfen howl."

Wolf Island is a quick installation within The Demonata series. Filled with its usual gore and irreverence, it’s kind of par for the course, but still fun.
