Quick easy read, entertaining but not amazing. Liked how reality tv and small town Facebook/gossip functioned

Very enjoyable read.
I tend to be cautious with “book club” books from celebrities… as this is a Reese’s Book Club. But I was very pleasantly surprised!

I loved the reality tv aspect, the sister relationship, the small town drama & characters, and how the resolutions weren’t all perfect & pretty, but more “real life”

Great read :)

3.5! This was a fun, mostly light read and a Reese Witherspoon pick. It’s about a Kansas family split in two operating competing restaurants in a small town. Their competition gets involved with reality TV and a whole lot more. Funny with real-life mixed in. It was easy to relate to these characters — even on an empathic level. It wasn’t entirely unpredictable but it was enjoyable.

I could care less about what happened in this story. I felt like I was reading a TV script.

If I could use emojis, I'd give this book that face that has a row of teeth. Amanda, Mae and Barbara are women who are all damaged. Amanda is widowed. Mae is a control freak and Barbara is a hoarder. There is zero reckoning for Barbara. She screwed up her kids because she won't get help because she's a hoarder (full disclosure, I have very little sympathy for hoarders because of personal experiences with them). I get it. It's a disease. But please give a damn about your kids. But the story isn't really about Barbara, it's about two competing fried chicken places. And DRAMA.

I really wanted to like this book. Small town rivalry and the cooking show setting were a good framework. Unfortunately, all of the characters were exceedingly unlikeable. I couldn’t even root for them, they were immature, unkind and constantly whining. I’m all about a flawed MC(‘s)—let’s face it we all have our challenges and have made stupid and/or avoidant choices and even been jerks in our lives. But yikes, these characters didn’t have one iota of self awareness, humility or even a desire to grow. This is marketed as a light and fun read and it was not at all funny or engaging.  I wanted the characters to just shut up, already. DNF halfway through.
