Sam’s Super Seats is a great story to highlight the importance of rest and talk about how needing it isn’t a sign of weakness. I thought that was a great message, not only for people with disabilities, but for all of us who need a reminder that there is strength in rest. I thought the story got a little bogged down in some of the shopping details, and I wasn’t sure how to feel about the talking seats, but overall I think this is a great story to show little ones (especially those with disabilities) how valuable it is to take a break - and have supportive friends who take that break with you.

where was the editor? this book was all over the place. and the whole concept of personifying seats? why? I appreciate that they were normalizing a disability but the book was just badly done

What a lovely, positive book! The super seats themselves didn’t hit quite right, but Sam’s back-to-school shopping trip was fantastic. I love how Sam listens to her body and knows how to take a break. I also love how her friends treat her: not with kid gloves, but accommodating her needs with no fuss or weird attention. I would love to see a sequel where they all have a birthday party or a scout meeting or whatever the youths do nowadays. More books like this, please!

Cute and unfailingly positive story about a girl with cerebral palsy who needs to rest and find “super seats” when she needs a break. Valuable story about how important it is to listen to your body and rest when you need it.

I love that Sam's story gets to be told! So often, books that center on people with marginalized identities don't even tell a story, they just explain that person to the reader. I find it really othering and also limiting. No one person can represent everyone with a shared identity! Through this book, I got to know Sam as she would define herself :)
