Alexis' world has just been thrown upside down. The cause: Daniel the handsome carpenter who rescued her when she drove into a ditch.

I loved this book. I adored everything about it. Though it dealt with some heavy subjects, it was so heartwarming and adorable!

Daniel and Alexis make no sense together. They are from completely opposite worlds, yet they just fit perfectly together. You can't help but root for them. They face insurmountable odds, but they are meant to be.

Daniel is such a selfless, compassionate, and thoughtful man. He is a carpenter who runs a bnb and is also mayor of Wakan. All he wants to do is to take care of those he loves. He would drop everything to be at Alexi' side. Plus he has a baby goat in PJs ...

Alexis comes from a family of world renowned doctors. It was so frustrating to see her put father's demands above her own needs and wants, but she was probably suffering from PTSD from years of abuse.  I loved seeing her journey to heal from the emotional abuse she suffered as a child and with her ex. Through her relationship with Daniel and being around the people of his town, she learns to heal and finally finds her voice. She goes from a very timid and anxious woman, to one who embraces her worth and power.

One of my favourite parts of this book was the found family aspect. Blood isn't everything, Alexis' mom and dad certainly proved that. The town of Wakan is like one big family who are there for each other through thick and thin. And Bri was such an incredible friend for Alexis.

Tropes: age gap, opposites attract, found families.

I've finally realized what makes a romance a good book for me.  It's when the book deals with issues outside the quest for the "right guy." This book does that by dealing with the protagonist's lifetime of emotional abuse, her recovery from it, and ultimately figuring out what she wants her life to look like.
Throw in a touch of magic and plenty of humor, and I'm a fan.  And I learned how a male should properly take a picture of a "special" area in a laugh-out-loud scene!

i did not expect to like this, but i did like it quite a bit, and even teared up at one point??? alexis really pushed the “we’re from different worlds” narrative a little too much and it did start to get a little annoying. but despite that, it was really fast and enjoyable.

I felt a part of their world. I felt the stakes were real and the traumas authentic. TW:domestic abuse. I think the author handled such a sensitive topic so well and it made sense she consulted with people beforehand. I love that she showed how debilitating it can be to live up to legacy and how this pair navigates it.

It was a nice read to listen to while doing work but it absolutely made me pause at times because the gravity of it all. That’s the sign of a good story.

I also loved that we never got an explanation for it but Wakan is absolutely haunted. 1000% 😂

I cannot read wait to read the next in the series. I’m sure I’ll be just as charmed.

Guys, I did it. I finally found a romance worthy of 5 stars. So. Cute. I. Could. Die.
I loved everything about this. I read it in one sitting, stayed up until 2am to finish because I couldn’t go to bed during the inevitable third act fallout and needed, really NEEDED, to see the happy ending. Wholesome and adorable with the perfect amount of spice. And an adorable mess of a deaf dog. What’s not to love?
