I loved the first half of this book SO much. This was my first Abby Jimenez book, and I love her writing. I found myself laughing out loud often even though there was a lot of depth and heavier content in this novel. Daniel is so much like my husband, so I found that incredibly endearing. I expected the domestic violence content going into the book, and I thought it was dealt with in a responsible, sensitive way. However, I was hit sideways by a birth scene that I wasn't expecting, and that really affected my enjoyment of the book. I also found the pacing a little off toward the end, but other than those two aspects, I would've given this 5 stars.

I've finally realized what makes a romance a good book for me.  It's when the book deals with issues outside the quest for the "right guy." This book does that by dealing with the protagonist's lifetime of emotional abuse, her recovery from it, and ultimately figuring out what she wants her life to look like.
Throw in a touch of magic and plenty of humor, and I'm a fan.  And I learned how a male should properly take a picture of a "special" area in a laugh-out-loud scene!

i did not expect to like this, but i did like it quite a bit, and even teared up at one point??? alexis really pushed the “we’re from different worlds” narrative a little too much and it did start to get a little annoying. but despite that, it was really fast and enjoyable.
