Couldn’t get into it. Took more focus than I have right now. Got a couple pages into Book I.

There is a reason why this piece of literature has remained in the canon for so long-it speaks to the human soul most eloquently. Dr Wilson has done an excellent job with this translation!

I really enjoyed this book and that was a shock since I expected it to be boring and difficult.
It surprised me that the story only talks about a couple of weeks of the war given all I knew about it, but nevertheless I enjoyed the pace and the descriptions of the fight it felt like an adventure. The fights were dynamic and fluid despite everybody stopping to make a speech in the middle of it.
It also felt quite hopeless knowing those warriors were fighting so desperately but their fate was already decided by the whims of the gods.
I got confused by some of the names (there are a lot of characters) - the whole time I kept thinking Antilochus was already dead and so was confused when he kept popping up in battle.
I appreciated the foreword explanations by the translator, it helped a lot.

This is a very good translation. Very modern. However, the book is incredibly violent. I guess I wasn’t expecting that.

I really liked it. I still love the Trojans more though.
