While not the first private eye book to take place in a hellish location([b:Darkworld Detective|1867039|Darkworld Detective|Michael Reaves|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1363553969l/1867039._SY75_.jpg|1867812]?), it's certainly one of the stranger ones. What kind of work does a hard-boiled dick do in hell? He hunts down murderers for murder victims. From the fedora and cheap suit to the gum cracking receptionist, Zeltserman plays the film noir theme song in a variety of hells, and for the most part it resonates quite well. I did find the ending a bit abrupt and I felt it didn't match the rest of the story, but other than that, it was a decent read.
