Perhaps it's the audio format, which I have yet to truly learn to fully concentrate on, or perhaps it was the story itself, but I didn't feel like much happened. I miss the Raven Boys gang, and though I enjoyed the first book, I'm not really gelling with the characters in this series, not even Ronan at times.

OK BUT I DIDN'T SEE ALL OF THAT COMING.

I have... questions. Many. This book is a mindfuck. My biggest question is, what the hell does any of this have to do with the whole Glendower, ancient sleeping kings, etc... it feels related, but I can't bridge the gap yet.

Also it's weird how little Adam is in this book. Like... I get why Gansey and Blue aren't because they're in Oregon being ecoterrorists or whatever, but Adam is here, and can be present, and... isn't? Or Ronan isn't letting him be... I dunno. This is a very different series from the Gangsey days -- and in a way, that's sort of the point.

Jordan Hennessy was art in front of art in a room that was art in a building that was art in a life that was art, and Declan told himself he had only come here to get his car back.

WHAT THE FUCKKKKK

Holy hell and bless that gods, MISTER IMPOSSIBLE takes the cake for mindfuck of the year. Apologies to my younger readers but the F Bomb was absolutely necessary. There are some books you go into with expectations, and there are some books you go into with hopes, and there are some books you go into completely blind to how utterly traumatized you will be once the pages are no longer plentiful and you’re left endlessly wanting for Maggie Stiefvater’s famed something more.

MISTER IMPOSSIBLE manages to be all of those things at once.

Here’s what I loved: words scattered so artfully across a page they can’t possibly be anything short of magical, the feeling of falling without looking down and instead watching the sky grow wider and wider until you feel small, your heart reaching for something something something to tie itself down to before realizing the object of your affection is not a tangible thing but a light at the end of a not-real tunnel and you’re grasping at straws that aren’t straws to explain how in the hell a work of fiction could make you feel like this.

What I’ve always loved about Stiefvater’s writing is her uncanny ability to capture that feeling a reader gets waiting for the impossible to happen. Her magical realism is what once kept me up at night, wondering if there was more out there in the world than we’re capable of seeing. I love stepping away from her books feeling changed and charged.

That being said, and despite my four stars, I was somewhat disappointed in this novel. It felt disjointed and awkward, the POVS scraping against one another rather than ebbing and flowing together. There were too many unexplained gaps. Too many half conversations and abrupt blank spaces on the page.
