Second reading: The boring info dump happened both up front and at the end. In Sayers' second mystery, she's working hard at making a convincing puzzle, and I think she succeeds. Also, she does more with characterization, so Peter and his relationship w Mary and others gets interesting treatment.
There is a funny passage w socialists, some excitement with a chase, a bog, a reluctant witness, and a last minute piece of evidence. These were diverting and entertaining, if not quite convincing. This is escapism, after all.
After a slow start, the book picks up in the middle and becomes quite fun. Alas, Sayers ends the book as she started it, with giant info dumps in court. It's better than Whose Body? but not yet a good book as a whole. It sparkles fiercely in enough places to win me over and make me interested to keep going to see the progression on Sayers' skill as a writer.
First reading: This improved upon its predecessor, Whose Body?, by having less of a boring info dump in the middle. I found it charming and amusing, and read several parts aloud to my spouse.

This is as good a Wimsey as I’ve read. That said, it’s flaws are those I find intrinsic to the form—the snobbery, mostly.
