A domestic suspense steeped in Halloween? I'm here for it.
The Mother Next Door is a suburban thriller centering around a group of neighbours planning their annual Halloween block party.
In usual fashion of the genre, all is not as it seems. Theresa and school principal husband Adam have recently moved to Ivy Woods Drive, where the ladies of the street quickly enfold her into "the Ivy Five".
But what of the previous fifth?
Add in a local urban legend of Ghost Girl, rumoured to appear in town after falling to her death on Halloween night years earlier, and you've got a fun read.
Author Tara Laskowski's latest starts off as a slow burn then morphs into a quick read as the countdown to Oct. 31 reveals secrets and relationship webs. And curveballs I did not see coming!
This is a book best enjoyed in October and there is still time to get to it - recommended!
