a bit too insta-love even for my tastes and had some other elements in the middle that I was iffy about BUT IT HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL WITH THE KID PLOT but alas they still managed to mess it up

Reed is a pro hockey player turned single dad when his estranged father calls him out of the blue and asks him to take in his nephew after a tragedy. Holland is Reed's sister's childhood best friend and when Reed needs help taking care of Evan while on the road, Holland is the only one who can help.

This was a short listen, ~6 hr/206 pages, and I don't usually go for stories this short because it never feels like there's enough depth. While I still felt that to an extent, I really enjoyed how simple the plot was and got to just enjoy the sweetness. It was predictable, but well written and I enjoyed the character dynamics!

such a cute read

This was such an easy, fun read. Hockey, single dad, best fiends brother… sooo many good tropes with great characters and such a good plot. The SPIICE????Holland and Reed???? Perfection

Not invested in a single character, is read by my least favorite male narrator, and some of the basic plot assumptions about life with and care of a 3 year old was so off base it felt like the writer didn’t  put any effort into understanding that major aspect of the plot… had so many jumps in logic I didn’t believe it anymore- such as, the girl suggested the kid watches cartoons at midnight and that makes her “so good with him, you have to come take care of home on the road” ???? Her father’s “dementia” acts like Alzheimer’s but she can leave for months with home nursing to fill in but can’t afford a furnace??? So This book has several of my favorite tropes but I was disappointed at every turn.
