I don’t understand anything about this book. Am I not reading it right? Why does everyone like it so much? The first half was interesting, I wanted to see what would happen after the ending of the first book. But that second half was the biggest nonsense I’ve ever read probably. The wordbuilding is so weak I want to cry. And don’t get me started about dialogue. It was as if the author just put a lot of words together without any direction or thought behind them. My dog can write better if he wants to.
It would have been a damn fine book if it wasn’t for the execution of certain plot points. Also, the BIG plot twist was sooo unnecessary… And let’s not forget we still know nothing about anything. Somehow I don’t think the third book will give us any real answers either. I’m not even sure I want to read it.

Is it just me, or did this book feel like it was written by a completely different person for an entirely different series?

I'll be clear, I didn't hate this, but I was just really disappointed this pivoted so hard away from the murder mystery and into the smutty stuff, especially when the first book was relatively reserved when it came to that.

And don't get me wrong, I don't mind smut, it actually makes up a good portion of what I read, but I honestly was just confused that this became a big ol' From Blood and Ash or A Court of Thorns and Roses style smut fest and forewent the lovely worldbuilding, quick pace, and fun character of the first book. It just doesn't feel like Wicked and Cursed actually go together.

I will still likely read the next book, but this really was quite the letdown after how excited the end of the last book made me. This was one of my biggest anticipated releases after Chain of Iron and Rule of Wolves and I can't believe it wasn't at least a 4-star read. Oh, well. Better luck next time, I guess.
