This was a fun, don't-need-to-think-too-hard kind of story. I loved the premise but I did not really buy the romance.

Jessica Clare’s Games series continues with book 2, Playing Games, which involves partners competing in the Amazing Race!

Katy never wanted to be on tv but after supporting her brother, Brodie, in his audition for a reality tv competition, Katy finds herself as his partner for The World Races. It doesn’t seem so bad when she has her brother by her side but that all goes downhill when Brodie makes a decision that allows them to swap partners. Now Katy is stuck with the celebrity pick of the game, Liam who is the grumpy famous rockstar.

This one was pretty fun but not as good as the first book in the series. I loved that we got to see the couple from book 1 competing with them and I enjoyed reading about the competition but I wasn’t connecting to the couple as much. There was a lot of detail involving the race and I was hoping we would get a little more angst or more details on their relationship.

I’m still excited to continue in the series!

This was actually really great? I remember liking the first because it was like survivor, and this one was the amazing race (one of my favourites) and I REALLY liked it. I like that these are shorter because I think there’s just enough, there’s a little spice and a little humour. Super enjoyable, also did not read like something from 2013, in no way did it really feel dated at all which may have been helped by the fact there’s no technology, but honestly didn’t feel dated in the slightest which is great.

I’ve never been much of a reality tv show fan, including the competition shows. Are you a fan of The Amazing Race? I’m not, but that was the best comparison I could come up with for the game in the book. I’m just assuming they’re basically the same.

Playing Games is the second book (433 pages on the Nook) in the Games series. The plot is logically constructed and the characters are fantastic. They’re normal and flawed (my favorite kind). Katy actually started to piss me off with how gullible and forgiving she was when it came to her brother Brodie. It reminded me of that saying, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” In this case, Katy’s an idiot and didn’t even learn after the second time. Liam’s character was adorable and makes you wish actual celebrities were so down to earth. Then there’s Katy’s brother, Brodie, our story’s villain. And he was without a doubt the antagonist in this story. He’s constantly trying and mostly succeeding at taking advantage of Katy and getting under Liam’s skin. Total d-bag. Abby and Dean (from Wicked Games) made an appearance in Playing Games. They were still awesome, but not the focus of this story. Therefore, their awesomeness really didn’t compare with Wicked Games Abby and Dean.

I think the author has an interesting concept going here and the stories are original, to me at least. I’m not sure if they’ve ever done the book challenges on the actual reality show. There is some explicit sexual content present in this series, so I’ll have to stick with ages 16+ here. I would recommend Playing Games, as long as you’re over the age of 16.

An ok read. Some of what happened was too close to what happened in book 1 and I feel like it was better in book 1. Not sure if I'll try the next book.

I love chick lit based on reality shows. This was just so fun, which is exactly what I need right now. I think I’m going to move right on to the next book.

I think I read this book all in one sitting. Pretty unusual for me. This is the second book in the reality tv romance series by this author and the tv show it is based on is Amazing Race, which is one of my favorites. Definitely enjoyed the two main characters, though I did find the main female lead's brother to be a little unbelievable in his harsh treatment of his sister. Somehow managed to resist running out and buying book 3 right away as I have plenty of other books to read atm, but it was a close call.
