Super happy to be back in the world of The Bureau. Love the cameo of my fave demon/master couple. Seriously, I adore this series. Every story has something new yet they all tie together--it's great. I will, I hope, eventually get Townsend's secrets though, because I *need* to know.

Another great addition to the amazing Bureau series! And such a lovely new couple. I still like Harry and John (Creature) the best, and I doubt anything will change that, but Edge and Terry are a close second! Their story was a bit more brutal than the rest as Edge's abuse continued throughout the book. His ‘boss’ was a real monster
Spoilerthat didn’t deserve such a quick death.

Seriously, as much as I love these, I think what’s getting me through them is the promise of a HFN at the end of each book.

Kim Fielding is the master of novellas.

Chained follows Terry Brandt, a Bureau agent, who has been sent undercover to infiltrate a Hollywood agent, Whitaker, who is suspected to be involved in using unnatural means to get his clients famous.

Edge works security for the agent. Whitaker seems to have an unusually tight lease on Edge. Even so Brandt and Edge hit it off, an emotional connection forms between them.

As Brandt continues to search for evidence, what he finds is much more disturbing than previously thought, and Edge's safety becomes his top priority.

I’m coming into this series a bit late in the game, but I’m absolutely hooked now. I always love the atmosphere and writing style in Kim Fielding’s stories, this one was no different.
She has written this paranormal story from a very original angle, mythology-wise, than we usually get, with a different power-balance.

I really loved enigmatic Edge and seemingly naive Terry together. They’re drawn to each other, but can they trust each other? Their feelings get quite intense quite fast, but it absolutely works.

There’s such a sense of hopelessness and sadness when we read from Edge’s point of view. His world is so small, his life limited to existing, surviving even, and he sees no way out for him or his brothers. I loved his interactions with Terry, the unexpected connection they feel and how it starts to slowly, dangerously, change Edge’s view of his life.

The mystery about all the goings-on at the mansion, and even at the Bureau, is very well-written and keeps the reader on his toes. Loved the suspense and the surprises the author had up her sleeve at the end!

I've enjoyed every book in this series, and this one's no exception. Fielding is great at characterization, those subtle clues to deeper natures sprinkled in so that when things get dicey or details are shared, true selves shine. This story has no sex scenes, for those who want to know such things, but there is heroism. That's my favorite.

CW: sadistic beatings, ownership of persons, drug use.
