What a delightful Peter Pan retelling! Aiden is an author to watch. I'm so looking forward to their next title because I need more of this energy!

Lost in the Never Woods follows familiar characters in a new, darker mystery. Wendy Darling is eighteen years old, dreaming of getting away from the town where she and her brothers went missing, and only she came back. She doesn't remember what happened to them, and despite her own grief and desire to know the truth, the town and police have been suspicious of her ever since. However, it seems like Wendy may get the answers she longs for when Peter Pan - a boy she remembers only from her mother's stories, stories Wendy has told others - shows up out of nowhere, acting as though she's a lost friend. And what's even worse is he shows up at the same time kids in town begin to go missing. Wendy and Peter must race against time to uncover her memories and discover who - or what - is taking children before it's too late.

My only major critique of this novel is that LITNW was written before Cemetery Boys, and it shows. You can tell that Aiden has honed their craft even further since this novel. That doesn't mean LITNW is poorly written at ALL, but it can be hard to delve into at times when descriptions and scenes still feel a bit clunky. Overall, however, this isn't a major detraction from the story as a whole and I think as long as you go in not expecting Cemetery Boys, you'll still really enjoy this.

I do understand some critique on Wendy's character, but given the state of her wellbeing and the fact that she's got amnesia on the events surrounding her and her brother's disappearance, I can forgive her being a little wooden. Peter is, of course, charming as always! This is a retelling that loves Peter and makes him the romantic interest many of us have dreamed him to be. Also, there's a crop-top agenda in here for Peter and I am in FULL SUPPORT! There are side characters, but honestly this is Peter and Wendy's story. Aiden says it best when they call this a second chance romance.

I also thought the final twist was super unexpected and I think it added the darkness that I needed in this story! Absolutely no spoilers though! It was a mystery I thought unravels well, and in a way which still leaves the readers rooting for Peter.

All in all, Aiden does a fantastic job taking a story we all know and love, and twisting it to explore a new version of what happens after ever after. I'm eagerly waiting to see the next Aiden Thomas novel! So far I haven't been disappointed and I think they'll only get better from here.

Listen, it was a me problem. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with this book : I just don't like Peter Pan stories. And that's fine, I'm just dumb for not checking the content of a book before buying it (and I did because 1) love Aiden Thomas, 2) pretty cover).
That is to say, I liked Wendy as a main character, the family dynamic is believable and the relationship between Wendy and Peter was very endearing. I enjoyed the writing a lot too, it's fluid and easy but some sentences really stand out - exactly what I appreciate. I liked the discussions about free will and the actual role of Peter Pan in the original text being discussed. I did shed a tear at the end because the way Thomas portrays grief is so well executed that it spoke to me a lot. This book reminded me how to move on when I'm stuck.
Now, for a book titled after the woods, there isn't a whole lot of woods in it. And the antagonist felt flat and two-dimensional (no pun intended, those who've read the book will understand). I expected to be more creeped out, more spooked and it didn't happen. Which is fine. But I'm disappointed.

Unfortunately I didn’t like this at all… I didn’t realize it was a Peter Pan retelling and I really struggled with how literal it was because I definitely prefer a loose retelling of fairy tales and stuff. I love Aiden’s writing and their other books, but this was just a miss for me and I didn’t connect to it. Just found it kind of cheesy at times and noticed a few errors and plot holes that I couldn’t get past.

I absolutely love this book. I am a huge Peter Pan enthusiast (it has been my special interest since i can think) and I love the way the story of Peter Pan is incorporated in this book.
