It took me this long to review this book because I'm having a hard time saying goodbye to Cale. It felt like us readers from the first book to this last one, were with him throughout his journey to his way home, home meaning his family. Needless to say, seeing his family again is something that Cale truly deserves.

Mr. Lerma's writing is outstanding. There were very graphic scenes that had me gasping and biting my fingernails, moments of hope that had me cheering for Cale to never give up and those times I felt like crying out of relief because Cale got a reprieve from the horrors he comes across. And lastly, I want to hug them all, Cale, Lauren and their little daughter, friends who helped him along the way, those that were gone and those who were left behind. Every bit of it felt real that when I reached the last page, I honestly don't know whether to feel relieved for the ending or be sad that his journey finally came to a close.

Mr. Lerma is a promising author, and the entire trilogy is a series that should definitely be part of your bookshelf-- no, should be the books you take to bed because you can't stop reading it. And hopefully in the future, a novella be released as we get to see how the children of the survivors adapt to the world they now live in (ahem ahem).
