I especially love Cornelia's voice in this... it made the book for me. I enjoyed the relationships and the writing. I could see the big plot twist coming a mile away but I didn't care because I really enjoyed the journey to get there. I love this author.
I don't even know why I loved this book so much but I really did. It brought me to tears a few times. I guess the less emotional side of me can say it is the great complex character development.
slow-paced
I loved both this and the companion book Love Walked In. This is definitely an author I will be keeping tabs on. As I said in my mini-review of Love Walked In, it's really nothing groundbreaking or earth-shattering, but the writing style really speaks to me and I felt connected to the characters. I think of it as a meatier kind of chick lit.
Entering my reviews over from my old Goodreads profile I unearthed recently...here are some super sappy thoughts from 2011-era 16-year-old Claire!
I loved Cornelia and Teo even more after reading this (if that were even possible, considering what havoc Love Walked In wreaked on my heart). But the book itself? Sub-par compared to Love Walked In. I can't explain it, although I did LOVE Dev. I don't know why, exactly, Love Walked In resonated more with me than this novel, but it did. I have to say, though, that the relationship between Piper and Cornelia made me want to cry - the good kind of crying. As usual, a really beautiful novel that explores love and loss.

This was one of those "Oh I HAVE to peek at the ending" and talking myself out of spoiling it for myself books.
Very well written; a story that transported me. I was actually part of the characters' lives vs words on a page.

This book completely sucked me in. The writing is clearly by a poet and her references to film are wonderful as well. That, and the story and characters are intriguing, as is the story. This is a book I will keep and will gift additional copies to others.
At first I thought this might be a good Book Club read and I still might offer it. It got more complex as the characters stories all finally combined in a way I had not expected. Check it out, it was interesting and light.
This book really tried, it really did. It was sweet and full of cute people. So I kind of feel bad about not liking it. But it somehow managed to be both overly dramatic AND stilted at the same time, and I can't get over that.
What a beautiful book. I loved the characters in Love Walked In, and loved them even more as they grow in this book.
It's a book about relationships (friendships, husband/wife, parent/child), love (long time love, first time love, allowing oneself to love) and families, and finding these things where you wouldn't expect. It's about being true to yourself. It's about finding the people that belong to you.
I laughed, I cried, I didn't want it to end.
What a beautiful writer Marisa de los Santos is. I can't wait for more from her.
