This book was relatively meh. It was cute, and the author did a good job of maintaining voice when switching characters (fairly often). The book seemed to wrap up a little too quickly for my liking, but it was definitely an okay book.

Quotes I like:

"Whose side are you on?" I demanded, although of course I knew the answers. Always, and in every way that mattered, mine. - pg 11

"I'm five feet tall," I told him. "Will you love me when I'm spherical?"...
"I've been waiting my whole life to love you when you're spherical" pg 171

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Marisa de los Santos is a talented writer, and I really appreciated her seemingly limitless vocabulary as well as her ability to create vivid metaphors. This was my first experience with Santos, and I was impressed.

A devoted city dweller, Cornelia Brown surprised no one more than herself when she was gripped by the sudden, inescapable desire to leave urban life behind and head for an idyllic suburb. Though she knows she and her beloved husband, Teo, have made the right move, she approaches her new life with trepidation and struggles to forge friendships in her new home. Cornelia's mettle is quickly tested by judgmental neighbor Piper Truitt. Perfectly manicured, impeccably dressed, and possessing impossible standards, Piper is the embodiment of everything Cornelia feared she would find in suburbia. A saving grace soon appears in the form of Lake. Over a shared love of literature and old movies, Cornelia develops an instant bond with this warm yet elusive woman who has also recently arrived in town, ostensibly to send her perceptive and brilliant son, Dev, to a school for the gifted.

I'll remember this book as the one that made me lose interest in chicklit, which I have loved up to this point. After slogging through de los Santos's 390-page turkey, I am heartily sick of the predictable secrets, clunky dialogue and idealized men that populate this genre. It was like skidding the surface and I don't want that in a book (especially not one of this size!). I want to feel the agony and ecstasy of the characters, lose myself in their stories and feel like I've learned something meaningful about relationships. You can argue that this isn't the point of chicklit and you may be right, but if every single character drives you nuts and you find yourself rolling your eyes or wincing at the descriptions and dialogue, you know you've hit the B-list and it's time to take a break. If you're going to indulge in dessert, make it satisfying dark chocolate like Emily Giffin or Sophie Kinsella. Don't waste your time on a box of Ding-Dongs like this.

I LOVED this book. I fell in love with all the characters in the first book, and I loved seeing how much they had all changed, and grown...both apart and together. I really enjoyed the new characters, and how those characters changed the old lovable characters for the better and for the worse. Once again I loved the style of writing, the poetic prose, and the life lessons you can get from just one sentence. This book is about love, forgiveness, and learning how to just let go and live your life. I loved it. I can only hope she brings these characters to life in the future.

I really liked this book, even though sometimes I want to yell at the author, "you expect me to believe that?". Much better than Love Walked In. I think de Los Santos is amazing at writing characters. I was sad when the book ended because I love Cornelia and Piper:).

I'm a sucker for a happy ending and novels about women friendships. Found the main characters perfectly adorable and as the story went on even the characters who were less likeable to begin with grew on me as relationships developed and changed. The writing was nearly lyrical at points making this a very easy and enjoyable read. Was surprised to see this is actually a sequel, thought it stood on it's own very well.

I really liked this book and thought it was better than Love Walked In. Some of the characters are the same but many new ones are introduced and it really does not feel like a sequel. Looking forward to her next book.

The perfect antidote to a wretched read. A stranger handed me this book while on vacation and I supposed it would be a quick beach read. And it was. And it surpassed my expectations. Some absolutely lovely lines, especially about friendship and relationships. Completely satisfied.

It took me a chapter or two to realize that this was the sequel to Love Walked In. The connection made the characters come alive even more.
