This is a far-sight better than Iron Gold.
Though I don't enjoy Lysander's point of view, I understand that we need some point of view from the Society. With Volsang Fa, the leader of the Ascomanni, and the Jackal-reborn rising as quite possibly the true villains of the saga, we will probably see Darrow and Lysander team up to defeat one or both of them. I genuinely think that Lysander has been brainwashed into believing that golds are the only people who should not be slaves. I don't love his misunderstanding and unwillingness to look at who Darrow is. On the other side of the narrative, Ephram and Lyria are quickly turning into some of my favorite characters in the whole series. I am excited to see where Lyria's story unfolds, as Ephram just got killed at the end.
Awesome book! I am excited to see where we go from here.

The darkest chapter yet of the red rising sequel trilogy - the Lysander chapters tend to drag a bit, and the non-stop existential brooding of Darrow can grind things to a halt. Ephraim’s story continues to be the most engaging of the sequel series, and Lyria get a lot of character growth that helps make what would otherwise be an annoying plucky “resistance” nu Star Wars character a much more interesting and fascinating experience.

Victra is easily a standout - something about her haughty, better-than-you tone just works, and she’s a far better POV character to have as a grown adult than she would have been in the previous books.

The darkness is grim and the grimness is dark, but it looks like we’re seeing the end of the tunnel with this space opera of a story.

Wow. If you liked the series so far for the unpredictable alliances, the absolutely BRUTAL combat, the sheer humanity of war and compassion laid bare, then you will definitely love this one as well.

We still follow our Howlers, the republic, the rim, the Vox, and every other group queueing for control and power. Learning more secrets, and following multiple perspectives.

This is an insanely dark book, with the true depths of war. Every trigger possible is in this book, so check them of needed.

Once again I found myself tearing up, freezing in shock, standing to cheer, and filled with rage. I am so attached to these characters. The absolutely brilliant writing makes me have empathy and feel depth for even the most henous of characters. I sometimes forget they aren't real...

I have so many thoughts, words, opinions, theories, and things I want to scream about. This book was intense in so many ways. Battle scenes, birth scenes, political scenes, this series has everything in it.
However, it is not for the faint of heart! There is gore, violence, betrayal, death, massacre, and so much more. I have definitely enjoyed reading this series (so far, book 6 is still in production), but I definitely think it's time for a breather to process all that just happened.
Obviously, this being a fifth book I don't want to give anything away for the preview books. However, I will warn that Pierce Brown is not the top to save all the favorite characters. I appreciate that because it's more like real life.
I've mentioned before that this series is of the Fantasy and Sci-fi genres. Definitely a very different read with a very different idea from many others I've read.
