The Fifth Elephant was one of the most political and adventurous of the Discworld books and I loved every second of it!

We really got to know a lot more about Überwald and the different peoples and races that inhabit that vast region of the world. The point of view of dwarves, while being somewhat closeminded, also portrays a modern way of thinking, where gender doesn’t matter (or at least they slowly start to learn that it doesn’t matter) and one’s origin doesn’t prevent him from being a dwarf (like Carrot being a human raised by dwarves).

I loved every second of Detritus with his shotgun crossbow! That troll can do no wrong for me.

Finally, the book ends with big news for Vimes! I wonder what changes this will bring on in the coming books.

Sam Vimes gets to shine like never before, this book really focuses on him in a way we haven't gotten since Guards Guards. I do wish the B plot was more interesting (despite being extremely funny)
