I wish I could have gotten more into the story to finish it but the characters were just getting on my nerves too much. They are supposed to be in senior year of college when their friendship falls apart but every scene that shows them back them just reminded me of someone in high school and they seem to have that immaturity level. I had to dnf at 30% because I couldn’t focus on it any longer. I’m sure it’s someone’s cup of tea and that’s fine. It just wasn’t for me and I had to give up.

I received a copy through netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review

Was I hooked by that book? Yes and no. The first half was super frustrating, but it had a different twist towards the end that made the story more real.

Sebastian and Nina bonded in college through a mutual love and devotion to the show Castles of Rust and Bones. But when the series ended, so did their friendship. Five years later they are reunited again by the resurrection of the show, to which they both have contact because of their professional lives.

It was absolute torture watching Nina and Sebastian be just friends while both wanted more. All because of a very unlucky incident at a party.

Okay, I admit, I wasn't too enthusiastic about another only-friends story. But this one has some interesting twists and turns and about two-thirds through I was suddenly a lot more invested in Nina and Sebastian getting together. These two are just regular, insecure people, like most of us. And they had to figure out where they fit in their own skin before they could figure out how they'd fit together. It all turned out pretty good in the end.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Honestly don't have so much to say, brhis was a book I read. I guess it was enjoyable at times but as a friends to lover in my own life I can often be overly critical of the trope. I guess for being best friends they didn't seem to actually know much about each other's insecurities and have any kind of sense or empathy of what the other person was going through? The third act
breakup seemed over dramatic, like Sebastian just let her walk away instead of standing his ground like she's been telling him to do the whole time? And she doesn't accept him for who he is so he has to change to win her back I guess. It's my least favorite kind of character development where the author(s) identify these character flaws and then go about and fix them magically so they can be together.

I kind of wish the big 3rd act could have been Sebastian getting mugged for the briefcase, finding out what was in it that way, and Nina realizing she loves him and it's different than all the past quickies. And why didn't they celebrate a 4 month anniversary.

Also a huge pet peeve of mine when authors, who claim to be from LA, write a tourist scene that spans 4-6 neighborhoods in LA that would be impossible to accomplish

This was a book equivalent of the lowest quality production values - everyone knows it's going to be awful, but the director insists it's "artistic" and delusionally believes the result will be so great nobody's going to care. The whole book felt fake, superficial and pretentious. I didn't like any of the characters enough to wish them well. To be fair, it didn't seem they liked each other any better.
It could be just the lens problem: we are stuck inside the heads of 2 extremely uninteresting and unsympathetic people - not in the evil-vilain sense, but in the "most banal, average and pointless" sense.

Thank you to netgalley and Kensington Books for an ARC of this book. Opinions are my own.

I read Ghosting last year and was delightfully surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I was very happy to get a chance to read more by this writing team.

This book is told in dual perspective. It's about two BFFs reuniting 5 years after college. Sebastian and Nina bonded over their love of a Game of Thrones type show, but at the finale viewing party, Nina ends their friendship without warning.

Sebastian is a cinnamon roll. He's kind, thoughtful, with gooy feelings and a delicious exterior. Nina, on the other hand is... beautiful. I had a lot of trouble liking her. The authors do a good job of helping readers understand her backstory, and there is a some effort on her part to move past her poor treatment of others. There is a fun group of supporting characters, little sisters, wacky roommates, and bros.

This is a slow burn, but when the two MCs get together, after so much pinning (from Sebastian) their first kiss just fades to black and there's a time jump to the next morning. It was fine, but the buildup follow through when they got together.

There's a clear love for LA (and hate for the traffic!) I feel like I could use this as a travel guide for fun things to do there. If you enjoy rom-coms with only-in-Hollywood work scenarios and a healthy amount of pinning, you will enjoy Hollywood Ending.
