Stamp's examination of the formidable Lois Weber's career manages to both capture Weber's unique personality and career while expertly analyzing the impact Weber's films had on her audience, the film industry, and film history. Stamp uses Weber's films to examine the everchanging role of women filmmakers in the silent era and manages to both create a fascinating portrait of Lois Weber as a persona and director while giving us a unique window into the Hollywood of the silent era.
