Wow. Loved this short story and didn't even know it existed until very recently.

I’ve never read anything by Steve Berry before but as anyone who follows me knows, I’m a huge fan of the Outlander series, and am in the midst of re-reading book 3 - Voyager at present. We were just at the point in the story where the old man Duncan Kerr tells Jamie about the Frenchman’s gold on the silkie isle, when a member of our Outlander Book Club told us all that this short story sheds a little extra light on that particular tale.

The story was on offer so I figured what the hell? It’s made me super intrigued to read the Cotton Malone books (as this character is the main one of this story), but it was also a fantastic fit into the Outlander universe too. Absolutely loved it.

I won't go into what it covers as that is some SERIOUS spoiler territory, but if you've read the Outlander series you should definitely read this. If just for one line that Jamie says to Cotton. There were tears, that's all I'll say.

It pains me to give a story with Jamie Fraser in it only 3 stars but this was just an okay story. The combination of Cotton Malone and Outlander characters because the investigator slipped through a stone circle in time was just - odd.
Cotton is visiting Ardsmuir Castle for a book sale when a walk on the moors takes him through time to 1755. Jamie is one of the prison gang working on the moors. It's only a short story so I won't give any more away, but it didn't work for me.

3.5 stars. I love Jamie Fraser and I love Cotton Malone. This was a pretty ingenious way of bringing the two together. I also really liked the explanation of how the two authors worked together. Give it a try. I think you won't be disappointed.

If you’re an Outlander fan this is intriguing enough for its own sake - but one page firmly fixes it on your heart.
