Definitely a good change from the Spencer run.
Always enjoy Ben and it was sad to see Peter out of the action, but I've kept up with it past the volume and it's good to see them teaming up. Missed a few issues here and there and looking forward to seeing more from this creative team.

Not sure about this Ben Reilly story yet, it’s interesting but not the strongest of starts

It’s been about three years since I read ASM regularly or an up to date collection. Heard good things about Beyond so I thought I’d give it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it’s because I’ve been completely burned out by Peter Parker’s inability to she or grow but a comatose Parker with an active Ben Reilly felt fresh to me. A new collection of secondary characters taking the spotlight was a big help too. Can’t wait to keep reading the rest of this run. Might be a red flag to some readers but it reminds me a lot of Brand New Day shooting on every cylinder, trying to see what sticks.

A cool premise and easy starting point for anyone looking to jump into the mythos. Nothing earth shattering here but you care enough about all these characters to keep the pages turning. Some less important chapters are written in that overbaked Whedon-esque style that superhero comic writers often rely on like a crutch but the main story beats are top notch superhero comics.

I was excited to see a new chapter of ASM, but this is not it.
I was never a fan of Ben Reilly, but in this one he's kind of okay. Janine comes out of nowhere, and the frequent scenes with Aunt May and Mary Jane just standing there and watching the comatose Peter are just badly written. Misty Knight and Colleen Wing are incredibly uninteresting, despite a whole segment of the book being about them. The different writers feel uncoordinated and this makes the pacing and quality incredibly inconsistent.
Can't wait to dislike the next one...
