An enjoyable read - not the best from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was glaringly obvious who the killer was, what the motives were, and I only read half the book before figuring out the ending. However, Sherlock's personality was always interesting to read./

My 9th grade lit. class is reading this because "we had a enough books" (great reason to choose a novel, huh?) Anyway, it is pretty slow moving to be sure, but my students have been good sports about it. I told them that in our "instant gratification" society, we need to read a slow, methodical book now and then. It may not be the most exciting book, but it has stood the test of time to be sure.

Pretty good. Read it in small chunks over a loooong time which was a bit silly because couldn't actually remember what was going on which kinda ruins the point of a mystery novel.
