September 2022 reread:
I still enjoyed every bit of this book and the banter between Evie and Jake up until the last couple of chapters. The drama - what was happening at that dinner, who it was answering Jake’s door, that all felt like the answers were pretty obvious and so I take back my not wanting to shake the characters a little. Because I did a teensy bit. But otherwise, this is such a sweet book and I loved Sam’s character too!

Another super sweet read from Sarah Adams. This book definitely had me laughing throughout. I also love how Sarah writes her relationships. Yes there is some drama but it's not too angsty or drawn out to the point of me wanting to shake the characters. In this book in particular, Evie and Jake have great chemistry, and I enjoyed reading about them getting to know each other. They had their ups and downs but I did like how they were pretty good at communicating when it comes down to it. Can't wait to read the next one.

The Match is an adorable romance that has a single dad, a 7 year age gap, a female main character (Evie) and daughter (Sam) with epilepsy, and a cute service dog sidekick!
The trope movement in this book is best categorized by enemies(ish) to friends to lovers. When the two main characters, Jake and Evie, don't start out on the best foot, they are a little like enemies BUT this phase does not last long! But once they become friends and Evie and Sam meet and bond, it is so sweet and cute! This book is very much like molasses because it is just SO sweet!
Like the When in Rome series by Sarah Adams, the side characters are so cute, 3-dimensional, and add so much to the story (in good and bad ways...👀). Also like the When in Rome series, Sarah Adams continues her voice of the cutest, fluffiest, Southern charm books that makes you grin and makes your heart flutter too!
Thank you to Dell Romance for a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review!💖

First things first, I love the cover, it looks so cute and at the same time simple.

Now to my thoughts on the story;

The writing is okay. It wasn’t the striking for me, although, it was very easy to read and engaging I just think that it’s lacking when it comes to the voices of the characters which I find really irky? Although, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t find the characters adorable, but they are, it’s just that the main character’s voices just irky sometimes and cringey.

Aside from that, there’s also times that I felt bored as I was reading, I’m not quite fond of the execution of the story so that one is really a major score for me.

Another thing I enjoyed is the disability rep, it’s great the read another romance book that tackles this subject. ALSO THE DOG! They’re so adorable ❤️.

Can not wait to read more of this author’s books.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️
Tropes: Single Dad, Age Gap, Epilepsy Representation, Fade to Black.
3rd Act Breakup?: Yes

The Praise: I enjoyed Evie’s relationship with Sam and how they bonded. I really liked the premise of the book as well.

The Critique: I don’t mind fade to black romance but I don’t like when an adult book veers into almost YA territory with how innocent the MCs’ inner monologues are. At one point Evie says sitting with her leg against Jake’s is “steamy” and that just felt silly. It’s possible to write a romance without sex without making your characters seem almost childish, Sarah has done it in her other books.

Final Thoughts: This was fine. I really liked the concept but the execution just wasn’t there for me.
