I loved this book.

I'm not going to review the first two because I just inhaled them and the three have merged as three parts of a whole (to be completed by more VA). The first one: Once I got past the name. Epic.
The second one: Great. Adrian is an awesome character and the growing love is exactly as it should be.

This one: LOVE.

Mead's writing has grown and changed that even while inhaling them I could see. The plots were more complex and the characters deepened as I looked at them (even Lissa who seems to have the dimmest personality amongst them all).

This book broke my heart a little. I could feel Rose's heartache at being torn between the two people she loves most. I could feel the way her lifelong duty was pulling at her and her want to fulfil her role and the weight of the promise! I was hanging for the fourth book and I just wanted to know what would happen to Dimitri. They loved each other. I want to know if the love survives!

NOPE. NOPITY-NOPE. THE HARDEST NOPE I'VE EVER NOPED.

I spoiled myself watching a video on YouTube but still...NOBODY PREPARED ME FOR THIS BOOK. More to come, right now I need to cry myself to sleep.

Edit:

The book was fantastic. It hurt in the right places. I feel quite bad because I had lots of prejudices against this series, but these books have been quite the surprise. I still think that Rose is a little bit too Mary Sue but she has one of the best character developments I've seen in a while.

I'm not going to comment on the ending, because I still haven't processed it. AND THE WORST THING IS THAT I DON'T HAVE THE THREE REMAINING BOOKS SO I CAN MARATHON MY WAY THROUGH THEM.

This probably deserves 3.5 stars because I felt like the pacing was a little off, as well as the storylines being a little disjointed. Plus I thought Rose and Dimitri's love scene was rushed! Rose says she "doesn't have the words" to describe it, but Richelle Mead should have. But, c'mon, like I could really give it less than four stars considering the ending?!

I love how this series simultaneously takes itself very seriously while constantly joking.
