4.0

I'm giving this a four even though it was gripping, with a solid menacing style totally appropriate for the setting. Post war Britain would have to be my idea of hell. Bleak, repressed and grey. Set in Newcastle and threads real life events into the story, notably the life of Mary Bell and a Labour politician jailed for corruption. But there is a significant deus ex machina at the end that let the story down. Worth reading though.
