A fantasy world with teeth, it can be unpleasant at times, but ultimately hopeful. This was the first book released in this series, so it felt like a good tone-setter; a fairly simple story to help you calibrate to what this world is like and how it operates.

I loved these books SO much as a kid and they still hold up! My only gripe is that the nonstop action I loved as a kid is a little overwhelming now, and mainly I would like to ask can this poor child get a freaking break?? Good LORD this boy is going to have nightmares for all eternity.
