I was rushing to finish at the end, just so I could still read something else and not have Xmas marred by this being the book I recall reading on this day. It's just not for me.

Couldn't put it down--spooky, witchy, real.

I normally love Megan Abbott, but this book made me wildly uncomfortable and for really no reason. Likeā€¦ I get the intention but it felt like a big swing for a pretty wild miss.

Highly recommend reading The End of Everything instead.

Zoomed through this in a few hours and loved every minute. Pretty much my ideal book.

Ironically, I read two books within the last two months with similar premises but very different outcomes. The Dreamers was the other novel. It felt like two writing students assigned to write a story about an unidentifiable plague that wreaks havoc on a town and how the community and its residents handle it. Getting to read them both is the best part. They're so different, though.

This one is frenetic with a school thrown into hysteria and plays dramatic situations between teenagers to the hilt. Some make very questionable choices that in some cases seem to arise from no real motivation, just silly yet dangerous ones. Entertaining story with plenty of twists and turns that I've come to expect from the author. She takes a very topical and mildly controversial topic and turns it on its head. She almost delves into the supernatural in this one, and it has many mysterious moments.

For being a relatively simple plot, the book is written with a really terrible air of melodrama. The book is very up front about what it's going for, and unfortunately, I don't think it's done particularly well.

This was good but I think I'll like Dare Me better.
