Would give 4.5 stars if it were an option.
I definitely felt like the series had improved by this point, and the characters seemed more.... complete.... although of course some are quite unimaginative.
Moving away from the "woe is the poor slum girl getting bullied by everyone" plot lines helped a lot, I think, and of course the inclusion of additional countries allows for more interesting developments.
I can't quite put my finger on why I don't love this book - it's not really all that different from authors I greatly enjoy, like Robin Hobb, but the characters are just a tiny, tiny bit less engaging.

O final desta saga não podia ser, na minha opinião, de qualquer outra maneira. Doeu um bocadinho? Doeu, mas ainda bem: é sempre assim que sei que desfrutei verdadeiramente de um livro e que, embora não fosse o meu «the end» perfeito, é o «the end» certo.
«The High Lord» segue, essencialmente, Sonea e Akkarin, sempre com uma perninha na vida de Cery e Dannyl. A resolução final da Guilda em relação à Akkarin e às suas acções funciona como peças de dominó a cair, umas atrás das outras: a sentença pode vir a pôr em causa o mundo como se conhece - e o frustrante é que a Guilda não parece perceber isso.
Eventualmente os velhotes lá se dão conta que meteram a pata na poça e têm de remediar a situação - apesar de terem sido avisados que ia, passo a expressão, dar bode.
Gostei muito do facto de o clímax se ter dado na Guilda, onde a vida de Sonea como ela a conhecia acabou, mas deu lugar a um novo caminho, que lhe trouxe mais miséria que felicidade - mas que, a felicidade que trouxe, foi intensa, sentida e precisamente no momento certo.
No momento em que eu estava ler este livro, já sabia que Trudi Canavan tinha decidido dar uma continuação à saga - ou, pelo menos, usar partes dela numa nova trilogia - e escrever uma prequela. Tenho todos lá em casa, mas ainda não tive coragem de lhes pegar.
A história de Sonea é me tão particular que tenho medo de que o vem a seguir acabe por mudar a minha opinião em relação à saga. É mais ou menos como diz Akkarin:
“I watched the first woman I loved die. I dont think I can survive losing the second”.

This is one of those books that when you finish it you feel empty. As if you suddenly don't know what to do with the rest of your life because the book is FINISHED!
Gaahhhh! I loved this book so much, I've read it more times than I care to count and yet each time I finish it I react in the exactly same way.
It's the final book in the trilogy so naturally you should read the other two first (Th Magician's Guild and The Novice) and although the other two are great this one just takes everything you thought you knew and flipped it.
Sonea is now the High Lords chosen Novice, the High Lords "favourite." Except she is soon to find that everything she thought she knew about him is far from the truth.
Canavan has created an alternate world where in the absence of technology magic presides, where class systems, politics and hierarchy control every aspect of life and people have to suppress who they really are in order to "fit" in. This provides some interesting plot-points for the book where characters who should in theory know better - let their prejudices get the better of them and therefore make disastrous decisions.
Each character has developed in this book and noticeably. Sonea is no longer the bullied novice and as always tries to keep level-headed in every situation, Rothen is no longer so forgiving and open-minded, Dannyl has gained new confidence all the while trying to hide his new relationship and as for Akkarin...well that's a spolier ;)
Canavan's writing is so fluid, although I've read that some find her writing a little over-descriptive? I loved it but that's just preference.
One of my favourite characters, Ceryni, got more page space this time as well which I LO-O-OVED.

This was the first ever fantasy series I read when I was a kid and it holds such a special place in my heart.
I love watching Sonea grow through the series and how she matures and learns to love and trust and above all, hold true to her convictions. This is easily my favorite of the series and everything comes to a head in such a satisfying way. So much heart break, love and hope.

Good but the age gap freaked me out like isnt this technically pedophilia, I was not expecting it and for you to have some reference I was 9 when I read it it really should have some warnings.... but it was otherwise great book and series.

Nawet niezła i jestem w ogromnym szoku. Sama pierwsza część nawet by zasługiwała na 4 gwiazdki i sam nie wierzę, że to piszę.
Sama książka ma motyw nadrzędny i radzi sobie z nim nieźle. Miejscami nawet zdarzają się okruchy literackości.
Jak to bywa w trylogiach dziwne i niepotrzebne decyzje z pierwszej części ciągną się przez resztę serii, więc jest jak jest. W sumie trochę na plus, że Canavan przez całą serię daje czytelnikowi to samo w remiksie. Jak ktoś to lubi to dostaje dokładnie to na co się pisał od pierwszego tomu.
Też mam wrażenie, że autorka stała się o wiele wprawniejsza w sztuce i poprawiła to co się dało, a resztę konsekwentnie uznała za celowy wybór autora.
