A very interesting biography of one of the first independent baptist fundamentalists life and ministry during the early 1900's. The book leads compellingly up to his murder of a man, the trial and eventual acquittal. The biography is well told and gives you a true look into the hatred and animosity and unchristlike character of fundamentalists. Worth reading, and also enjoyable as the audiobook.

Fundamentalists whitewash the legacy of J Frank Norris. This historical narrative of one chapter in his tumultuous life will remind many of the temper and ego of Jack Hyles. It is also a masterful work of "setting the record straight" about a man who was a religious huckster and a crafty pulpiteer.

I wanted so badly to read this, but I just couldn't get through it. The structuring just wasn't done right. The book would seem to follow one person part way down the timeline, then jump backward to another, and another, so that it was hard to feel a cohesive perspective of people and events.
