In a sub-genre overrun with tropes, Decay offers a refreshing new take on zombies. The plot is solid, and, unlike so many other soi-disant novellas, it has a complete story arc. The biggest weakness is that at times the writing is slightly repetitive and overly didactic. I'm a strong advocate of moral messages in stories, but they should be a subtle seasoning that is revealed gradually not a sermon that is delivered by a character. Overall, the unique perspective makes it worth reading.
