Having read all of Prelutsky's other collections, we pretty much had to read this one, too. And, in the end, that sentiment I began with kind of summarized the experience for me. It's not his best work, but if you've read and enjoyed everything else, you may as well read this one, too. It's basically a retread of every type of poem he's written from Scranimals to the silly lists to the poems that build to a single punchline. One or two got a chuckle. I miss Stevenson's illustrations, but Chan's are also excellent even if they skew a bit young. Overall, it's the weakest of the collections, but that doesn't make it bad. It's just not exactly essential reading for anyone who's not already a Prelutsky fan.

"Hard-Boiled Bugs For Breakfast: And Other Tasty Poems" by Jack Prelutsky drawings by Ruth Chan is a sun poem book for young readers. This is a super silly and funny book that will make you smile! This book was published in 2021 so it is a newer book of children's poems. The "If I Had No Homework" poem was by far my favorite and was very relatable! Best age for reading this book is upper elementary and middle school readers as it is a bit more challenging. I feel it is a great book to have in a classroom library and to teach poem writing as well. Students would laugh and fully enjoy this. Very very fun! <Humor> <Poetry> <2021>
