This is between Emmeline(who eloped in book 4) , who is now widowed when our hero Lionel kills her husband in duel. Lionel swears to help her in any way he can.
8 months later her parents arrange a marriage for to a disgusting man in less than a week without even speaking to her about it. By the next day she is married to Lionel as it's the only escape plan she can see.
This is probably the angstiest book in this series so far. Enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience, a man who can't seem to stop getting into duels and a woman who can't seem to trust her own feelings about her first or second husband.

The untouchables

I love each untouchable more than the next and can't get over it! The characters all work really well together, and I am so happy that the self reflections saved many of both our hero and heroines actions. Wonderful read!

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Another book hangover by Darcy! Every time I pick a favorite in this series she tops it. I was hooked from the start with the duel and the mystery surrounding the reason for it. I couldn't believe her parents put her in the position they did and forced her hand. The sexual tension between them flies off the pages and when it explodes the whole house knows. I loved them together and how everyone was trying to help them. The ending was perfect and made me want more.

Emmaline has many feelings about her husband's death and hatred is one of them. She had married for love but was not happy. I loved her from the start because she laid blame where it needed to be and did what she had to so she could have a chance at being happy. She was a quick thinker and when she opened her heart again it was great.

Lionel is a tortured soul and really the Duke of Honor too. Everything he did was because of honor and for other people. I loved him right away and he melted my heart with the kitten. He didn't hide his feelings and his desire to have a life like his parents. I was on edge hoping nothing would happen to him.

What does one do when their spouse is killed in a Duel? Well, most people might grieve and then move one. However. when the man who duelled and then killed your is also known as the Duke of Danger, perhaps you marry him. Also, he is a Marquess, not a Duke. Perhaps I should have read book one first because I do not think that word means what they think it means.....
Lionel, The D.O.D, feels so much guilt. He has been in 3 duels and he killed two of his opponents. He really values honor. His honor, the honor of his friends, your honor, my honor, honor as a concept. The book opens with the duel that introduces him to Emmaline.
Emmaline ran off to Gretna Green to marry a man and now he has been killed in a duel. Her husband was in a lot of debt so she must move back to her parents home. Her parents have now decided that they shall marry her off to creepy old dude and she will not have it. The Duke who killed her husband offered to help her and initially she plans to give him the cut direct at the opening ball of the season. Now she needs him to marry her and save her from old dude.
I have to admit that I really appreciate how Emmaline starts by thinking that her first marriage was a good one. Not perfect but good. However, as she has time to process it, she starts to see that maybe her marriage was not what she thought.
Lionel has so much guilt and self flagellation. As he and Emmaline start to grow close, they both have to learn to look at things differently.
I am now going to have to read the other Dukes and the ones after as well.

When Lady Emmaline Townsend's husband is killed in a duel she vows revenge on his killer, Lionel Maitland, Marquess of Axbridge. However, less than a year later and faced with an arranged marriage to a lecherous man old enough to be her father Emmaline summons him back to London with a proposition, marry her as penance for the murder of her husband.

Lionel has killed two men in duels, something he never wanted to do, and is tortured by guilt. Although a loveless marriage in name only would mean the title would pass to a distant cousin and deny Lionel the joys of love and children he feels he must marry Emmaline to atone for his actions. However, very soon he finds himself falling in love with his wife. Lionel can never tell his wife why he challenged her first husband to a duel, or that her husband shot before the count of twenty.

I love a good marriage of convenience historical romance, and how much more delicious when it's with the man who murdered your husband, even if your marriage was deteriorating and your husband turned out to be an inveterate gambler.

Just loved it.

**SPOILERS**

It was so, so good until the beginning of the end. First of all, the challenger of a duel does not get to choose the weapon; code of duels specifies the challenged picks the weapon. Lionel would never have picked swords. And to demand it in an hour's time when the challenged was absolutely drunk *and* is not a swordsman is beyond ridiculous. There's even a provision in the dueling code that says if you swear you are not a swordsman, you don't have to use swords. That's a provision for the challenger, as *the challenged one chooses the weapons*.

It also doesn't make sense that the villain would receive transportation rather than the death sentence. He admitted to murdering a viscount and attempted to murder a marquess, plus all the extortion. I can't believe such a criminal would receive transportation rather than hanging.

It's a shame that such a good book fell apart based on flimsy historical inaccuracies; it destroyed the tension and made it silly and unbelievable instead.

I loved the hero and found the heroine okay. I am not certain why he loved her but it's obvious why she loved him; he was so good and honorable and kind. And very flawed. He was wonderful.
