I gave this book 4/5 because there were some slow parts, that I felt could have been shortened. Other than that I really enjoyed the book.

Ethan sees this girl that everyone is calling "Ravenwoods niece" at school and fell head over heels as soon as he saw her. He soon learns that there is a lot more underneath her black clothes and green eyes.

The plot of the book was very interesting, however; after you learn about the locket they find and who it belongs to, I saw the story going a different way. I kinda wished the writer would have included more of the past in with the ending. There were some parts that included Ethan's aunts that I felt could have been shortened. Although there were other parts I would have liked to read more about.

The characters were developed and not to whiny. I did find Lena a bit whiny, but she kinda had a reason to be. I think they should have went more into the other characters, like Genievea or the other Ethan.

So it was a pretty good book, although there were some parts that could have been better.

The writing was fine, the characters were fine, the story even was fine. I just didn't find it engaging.

I have been trying to figure out what about this book just didn't resonate with me but I can't put my finger on it. It just seemed to be trying too hard to make everything tie in. Things were presented as mysterious that were pretty obvious and the main character was a little too ... annoying, I guess. And while a part of me understood why Lena had to be alone so much for the story purposes, it certainly didn't jive with her supposedly loving, concerned and present extended family. The last 1/8th of the book or so really picked up and I enjoyed the climax of the book. But even the end was left with a rather annoying and unnecessary cliffhanger.

In general, I wouldn't recommend this book. There are so many of this genera I have enjoyed more. I already purchased all four in this series when they were on sale, so I will probably read the next ones after I've put some time between me and the reading.

This book was a ride from start to finish.

The magic, the characters, the town, the story, everything! For a book so large that says so much, I was surprised on how short it seemed. There isn't even anything I can say that won't be spoiling something, so I guess there's only one question left to answer:

Light or Dark?

I had so wanted to enjoy this book, sadly I just wasn’t a huge fan. Actually I had multiple issues with both the story itself and the audiobook. If it wasn’t for the audiobook I am not sure I would have made it through this book.

Book
First off one of my biggest issues with this book was the total length of this book. The edition that I own is almost 600 pages long, about 200 pages longer than it needs to be. There seemed to be a lot of dead space throughout, I found myself on multiple occasions asking why in the world nothing was going on yet somehow the authors were able to fill up pages. Also with this the length of time the book covered was too great. I understand why they choose to use almost a 6 month period of time, but it was almost entirely unnecessary. I feel like in one chapter in would be one holiday and then next thing you know we are at a completely different holiday with no time in between passing. It made the book feel like these events were happening over the course of a month, not a couple months.
Also I wasn’t a huge fan of the main characters, they were okay but I felt nothing towards them and at times they really annoyed me. I get the author was trying the southern gentlemen approach with Ethan but it didn’t feel right, it felt like a whole other side of him was missing, and don’t get me started on Lena. She was whinny and really just need to get a grip, was not a fan. Also did anyone else notice that Ethan started calling Lena L halfway through the book? It really bugged me.

Audiobook
Now as I mentioned before the audiobook was the only reason I finished the book, but barley. My biggest complaint, and really my only, is that voice of all the characters were exactly the same. I found it hard to keep track of who was speaking. Ethan was the really the only character who had his own voice, and at times it was like he lent it to the other character, that’s when it got even more confusing. Quite frankly it drove me to madness. I almost quite the book because of it. Though I have learned audiobooks and solitaire can really make the time fly, I typically meant to just listen for about 30mins, well next thing I know its 2 hours later and I’ve only won 2 games and don’t want to stop. So that part was fun!

All in all this was by far not one my favorite, personally I kind of enjoyed the movie better. I most likely will not be continuing on with this series.

I bought the book when I saw a trailer of the movies. I wanted to see the movie, but I know that books are always better than their movie version so I figured it was best to read the book first. It was a lot better than the movie haha.

I'm not so good at writing reviews and it has been a while since I read this book, but I do remember that I really liked it and I was hooked at the very beginning of the book. It is easy to read and you want to keep reading.

So very, very, very disappointing.

This book is unorganised, dragging and in the end, still doesn't make sense to me.

Seriously, what gave him the dream vision at the start anyways? Just because he's connected to her somehow...

Ironically found the film first, wasn't the biggest fan as I can see the inconsistency within. Did like the book though just felt a bit young for me after what I've been reading

I loved this book! It gave in to the supernatural theme that all the authors are doing now but it was very authentic. The characters were well drawn out and they described as if they were real human beings, not just names typed on paper. I would definitely reccomend this book to anyone who wants to read something better than Twilight. :)
