This was sort of a guilty pleasure read when I was a pre-teen... I knew it wasn't good but I read it anyways and *ahem* actually liked it. Now, though, I realize just how bad it was. Picture adult historical fiction, remove the explicit content and take the ages of the main characters down a notch, and you have Boston Jane.

Yeah.

I don't recommend it.

I love reading books like these. Little house on the prairie is roughly similar to this. Its set not in the same place but at the same time. Just an easy read to bring back good memories :)

This book was not what I was expecting. I was expecting something for a slightly older audience, but it reminded me of something for a third or fourth grader. It was very similar to Little House on the Prairie mixed with a little bit more romance. In terms of the story, for a story for that age group, it was great. I don't why I had my expectations set to a higher reading level, but I did. It was a decent mix of history, as well as relatable for the young girls who are undoubtedly reading it. Jane did get a bit trying at time by trying to always be a "proper lady" but she got a bit better at times. I'd like a better explanation for Mary turning up, but I think it just goes with the Chinook superstitions. I don't think I'll read the sequel, but I'll probably read a spoiler filled summary to know what happens in the end.

Although this book is probably aimed at upper elementary/middle school age level, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to read the rest in the series.

I used to love this book. There is just something so justifying about girls taking their lives into their hands and molding it into what they wish it could be...even if it goes awry.
Great novel for U13. Just the right size for a light read, if you can put up with the lesser vocabulary. However, is a great storyline and well worth the time you put into the book.
