This story is a continuation of the hunt for the traitor to the crown. Evie is the niece of the Marquess of Camden, the Spymaster to the Crown. In the previous stories in this series, we know that Evie will help the hunt regardless of whether her uncle and cousins wish that she not join in the pursuit.  She has proven to be an excellent agent and has even saved Captain Anthony Browne’s life while he was working in France.  Knowing that Evie would work to catch the traitor, her uncle the Marquess assigned Captain Browne to handle her in the hunt.  Little did he know that Captain Browne and Evie have a history together.  The Captain and Evie have to balance their relationship and his wish to keep her safe and her wish to help in the hunt.  I enjoyed this story and am hoping that there is another book coming in this series.

I blame the fact that while reading this book I was super busy but this book wasn't my favorite in the series. Please don't get me wrong. I absolutely love Evie and Anthony and have been waiting for this story since the very first book. I just feel it wasn't as spicy as the rest of the books. It centered a lot around the spying and finding Mitchell. What I did like about that, though, is that we get to watch their relationship develop and grow.

I love Evie's strength and stubbornness. I love how Anthony understands her and tries to include her when he can while keeping her "safe" as well. I love how these two work so well together. I love how they have a history and instead of fighting it they basically embrace it. It was fun watching the ladies work together and show the men in their lives that they should not be underestimated.

Sadly I am going to miss this group very much. They are the ladies I would have loved to hang out with if I was alive during this time. Hopefully we will get glimpses of them in future books.

I jumped right into this book, having not read the previous books in the series. I have read the domestic discipline quartet and I loved that there were some cameos from some of those characters too! Since I didn’t read the other books, that combined with the large cast of characters had me a little confused as to the whose who during parts of the book, but even that didn’t heavily detract from the story.

If you’re familiar with historical costuming at all, there’s a phrase that’s pretty common in those circles that goes something like “historical dress, not historical values” and I think Golden Angel as an author embodies that concept in historical fiction. Her characters are both realistically living in past times, and also likeable when viewing them as a 30-something in modern times.

If you’re into historical fiction with a kinky twist, definitely pick up as many of her books as you can. As I figured out by reading this book as a standalone, you can easily pick them up out of order too, as each book focuses on a different couples story and the characters from other books become side characters.

This is a brilliantly crafted story, with engaging and imaginative main characters. I truly loved this book from start to finish. Anthony and Evie are relatable characters, who had me turning the pages to see what would happen next. Both are complex characters driven by duty and love. Their chemistry on the page singes the page. Many of the secondary characters add dimensions to the story and show sides to the main characters.

The espionage subplot is captivating and intriguing. While we know who the traitor is, going along with these characters while they search was fun and entertaining. Both the romance and the espionage had me turning the pages to find out what would happen next.

This is the first Golden Angel book that I’ve read and I will definitely be reading more. I strongly recommend reading this series in order, for better enjoyment of the espionage plot that runs through all the books in this series. Angel does what I love best in series – having the main characters from the various books appear across all the books in the series, even if it’s short appearances.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Deception and Disciple series got me out of a reading slump. It has just the right mix of action, humor and spice. Although I enjoyed the first 3 books in the series immensely, finally getting Evie and Anthony’s story after seeing them spar in the previous books was wonderful. I can’t wait to read Golden Angel’s back catalog and her coming books

Finally Evie and Anthony' s story.
Finally because A Season for Spies is the fifth book in that series and it is, in my opinion, the best.
The best because Evie is one of the best female characters I've ever met.
The best because I laughed a lot at Evie and Anthony's witty banter.
The best because that book has very intriguing side characters ( I definitely want to know more about Henry and Delilah!)
That book can be read as a standalone but I really recommand to read the series in order to know all the backstory

The final installment in the Deception and Discipline series by Golden Angel is finally here and what a good way to end this series!
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book.

To completely grasp the story and the amount of characters you would have to read the rest of the series aswell.
I liked that there was a list of all the characters because it can be easy to lose track of who is who. Even when you’ve read all of the books it could be confusing.

Finally we get to see the story of Evie and Anthony. For the best effect I would really recommend you also read the novella Spy Season which contains the first 2 encounters between Evie and Anthony.
I loved that we got to see more of Evie’s character and she was exactly like I imagined her to be. After her parents died she was supposed to go to her uncle who is the crown’s spymaster. Unfortunately while waiting for her uncle she ended up with an awful woman which made her flee to live on the streets for 4 years. Thank god Tramp found her! Eventually she was saved from the streets (but only because she wanted to be found, it’s still Evie!).

Anthony is one of the agents of Evie’s uncle and because Evie can’t butt out of her uncle’s business he is the one who gets to babysit her and include her in the ride. Anthony sees and knows what she is capable of though.

This book is full of action and full of spice. I loved the scenes and the dynamic between Evie and Anthony and seeing them coming to terms that they love each other. The smut is amazing in this book and of course the Society of sin comes into play again.

I still can’t wrap my head around that storyline with Joseph. I really wanted to punch him in the face and yell at him. I also really felt that it was implied that Joseph’s wife was involved in the scheme and that confused me somewhat when she wasn’t. Maybe I’ve just read to many spy/crime stories where I can’t trust any character. I’m glad though that I read that Joseph and Priscilla get their own little novella story, and I really want to read that!

Overall this is a great conclusion to this series which I very much enjoyed.

4.5/5 stars.
I loved Evie and Anthony together and how they started.
I liked how Anthony picked up early on how best to deal with Evie and I loved how he stick by her even against her family.
Elijah did get on my nerves cause even his wife, Josie, had more leeway than Evie had and that was not fair at all. He did apologized for it but I think it was too late cause even her uncle acknowledged in some way her efforts but he just flat out denied her involvement in anything.
Loved the sexy encounters
