This is a wonderful little volume containing ten short pieces that distill the essences that Arthur Machen addressed at greater length in his better-known works of weird fiction ("The Great God Pan", etc). For a reader new to Machen, this isn't the place to start, since these prose poems are something of an alternate approach to his fictional themes, and require some familiarity with those longer stories to really appreciate. That said, this is truly a magical little volume which will be well-loved by those who are already fans of Arthur Machen.
