Short story, too short to pay something for it. Should be tacked to a book ending. Or given away for free.
Scary Pendergast-telling of a nice children-bedtime-story, a twist on the Tooth-Fairy.

When you mess with the New Orleans Tooth Fairy, you get all your teeth violently pulled out. Thank you for another disturbing image Mr. Preston and Mr. Childs.

Well *that* was incredibly creepy. We get a glimpse into Pendergast's childhood, and learn that really, his life has always been this weird.

The local tooth fairy legend involves not shiny wings and a magic wand, but a creepy old man who collects teeth from the local children, in exchange for their continued existence. Welcome to New Orleans!

A wee, pre-psychotic Diogenes wants to take his tooth over to the old man's house, and Pendergast is far too logical to let that happen. A combination of precocious sibling hilarity and absolute horror ensues.

This makes for an excellent little side story to the Pendergast series. Extra Pendergast shenanigans are always welcome.

Retellings of one's past is a hit-or-miss device and this one was delightful! It has a charming, casual setup that works and the story is odd and curious while being reflective and revealing of its narrator. Fun stuff!

As an hour long aside to the normal Pendergast stories, this little fireplace "ghost story" is great. Having Pendergast tell a creepy story is wonderful and I hope for many more tales of the old New Orleans and a young Pendergast and Diogenes.

I was hoping for a book, but this is just a short story. :-/

Digital copies can be tricky!

A super creepy New Orleans spin on the Tooth Fairy legend, featuring a young A.X.L. Pendergast? Yes, please!
