3.75 stars! I enjoyed this book very much. I prefer reading about this sister than the one in the first book. The story was good, characters were interesting, and I liked the love story that was ongoing between the two main characters.
I'm not going to lie; I went into this book slightly apprehensive. Chrysantha's portrayal in The Shadow's Between Us made her out to be an airheaded woman who was cruel to Alessandra and often caused problems in her life, seemingly unknowingly. Overall, doesn't sound like a character who I'd love to read about for several hundred pages.
I have never been so happy to be wrong.
Minor spoilers ahead (literally only mentioning information from the first couple of chapters):
Chrysantha is one of my favorite characters I've ever read, and that was established in the very first chapter. She is a cunning, witty, intelligent woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. She's a marvelous actress who has put herself through hell to get a life free of men. She has a sarcastic, fearless, strategic personality once she's free to be herself and can shed the mask she's worn for so many years. Watching her come into her own power and not allow anything or anyone to bar her from her freedom (even if it means an occasional murder along the way) was an amazing experience. I never knew I needed a book from her perspective, and I'm so thrilled I got it!
