The horror was too scary for me. I even tried to read during the daytime. I would leave this book for days at a time and still would have subconscious nightmares... pretty wild.
But Carmen Maria Machado is an inarguably talented writer. I think she writes metaphors better than any other writer I have come to know. I deeply appreciate Machado as a writer.

As is often the case with short story collections, this one had some hits and some misses for me. But the hits resonated with me strongly so I'm still compelled to give this 4 stars. Favorite stories in the collection were "Inventory" and "Eight Bites".

Every tale delivered love and fear in my heart, lSomeone please put Mike Flanagan in contact with Carmen Maria Machado. I demand a miniseries.

Dnfed at 60% ; the short stories format is absolutely not for me. Rating based on my personal enjoyment, hence why it's low (I only liked the very first story).

Super beautiful writing and descriptions that got lost in the storyline sometimes. Was never super satisfied with the endings.
