Trigger Warning: Sexual Abuse/Assault, Physical Abuse/Assault, Emotional Abuse/Assault, Stalking, Pornography, Violence, Maltreatment… ALL of Minors/Children and Murder

It was a great book, but it was truly hard to read because of how in depth this book dove into very triggering topics. Please, please read the trigger warnings of this book. The MULTIPLE sexual abuses that occur in this book are very graphic, in-depth, and are really the focus of this book. Many people will say this is a thriller/horror novel. What makes it so horrific is the depth of which all the trigger warnings are explored/written about/talked about. It’s an important read, but very, very traumatic. So please… read the trigger warnings, and if you’re someone who’s suffered from domestic/sexual assault/abuse please be cautious because such topics are explored in GREAT detail. Great book, but again, it’s an extremely hard read… especially as a survivor herself.

I’m struggling to rate this book. On one hand, I probably should have considered the content warnings a lot more before getting into because man there was so much that happened in this book that was really hard to swallow. I really felt for Enchanted, she went through so much pain and abuse which made it really hard to continue reading sometimes. On the other hand, I think this book has a really important message at its core about the oppression and abuse of Black women in our society, and it sheds light onto the manipulation and exploitation on young girls in the music industry. I also feel like this book is mid marketed as a mystery- it is so much more than that. Overall, I think this book was well done but maybe just not my cup of tea given the difficult topics covered throughout.

Korey Fields is dead, and all the signs point to Enchanted Jones.

Grown follows a seventeen-year-old aspiring singer named Enchanted. While her family views singing as more of a hobby, she wants it to turn into a career. One day, she is discovered by Korey Fields, a headlining musician, at a talent contest. He grows interested in mentoring Enchanted and helping her develop a singing career.

However, things grow dark very quickly. The glorious side of Korey that is seen by the rest of the world is different from the one Enchanted sees… until she wakes up one morning with Korey’s bloody, lifeless body and the police at the door.
