I was surprised at how short this book was. I actually wish it was longer. I enjoyed the book and felt it was relatable in many ways. It's a great book to spur a discussion about societal beauty standards, the patriarchy and radical self acceptance.

While I heart-achingly connected with parts of the book and it definitely left me with things to reflect on, I was overall underwhelmed. I think this book may have been more impactful if I first read it years ago when I got it; I’ve since moved past the introductions to fatphobia, and its intersections, presented here. I was also often distracted by the writing style. While I appreciate the author’s voice, the repetitive and casual style made the book feel like a first draft.

Still, if the topics of fatphobia, body-size & weight discrimination, and fat liberation are relatively new to you, I would still recommend this read.

"We cannot starve our way into being loved, into being free." This book was such a perfect, concise slice of liberation! Thank you Virgie Tover for sharing your wisdom!

Thoroughly enjoyed this. It was short, but as someone only just recently wading into this territory it not only got me fired up about issues that hit home and yet affect so much more, it opened my eyes to the deeper darker roots beneath. I borrowed this book from a friend, but I think I may pick up a copy because there was so many quote worthy impactful moments that I could cover each page and highlighter and revisit in the future when I'm questioning my self worth, and considering destroying myself to fit into a smaller box for others.

Simply brilliant. Heartfelt, logical, sincere. Everyone must read this book, regardless of fatness.
