After watching Infinity War the film I decided to have a look for the comics where it all began. This was a pretty cool story

Random Thoughts:

-I really love the scale of this one. Some darn powerful heroes come in this one and you can really feel the battle taking place all around the universe

-I also loved how Thanos uses his powers here. I was a tad let down by how he chooses to use them in the film but he really goes all out here and pulls no punches.

-Amazing art and amazingly well draw. Thats probably obvious but I had to say it anyway

-I actually don't read comics that often. I mostly get my super hero knowledge from tv shows and movies, so there were a few heroes I didn't know about that I learned about here. Firelord is a new favourite I would love to see in the MCU

-I also kind of loved how this ended. Like the film it really illistrated well that Thanos is the main character of these stories. I also liked the twist that subcausiously Thanos wants to be challenged or defeated so that was an interesting layer too. Hes working against himself. I feel like people do that sometimes in REAL LIFE LOL.

Summary:

Overall this was a really enjoyable series. It was really different then the movie so it felt like reading a totally different story. And it makes me curious how they are going to end things with Avengers 4!

*Possible Infinity War spoilers if you’re the only person in the world who still hasn’t seen it*

I hadn’t read this comic since I was really young, and I wanted to brush up on all of the post-snap details so I can make my predictions for Avengers 4 next year. This is a really good series that is packed full of Marvel’s best heroes and villains fighting one of the most recognizable of antagonists, the mad Titan Thanos. A must read for any Marvel fan.

So I ended up reading about as many of the tie-ins as I could get my hands on for this book. If you're going to read this book I would highly recommend reading Thanos Quest first (collected in Silver Surfer: Rebirth Of Thanos) as it provides a lot of buildup that is missing in the main Infinity Gauntlet story. Most of the Silver Surfer lead up to Infinity Gauntlet I enjoyed as well (#34-#51), but YMMV as I enjoy Silver Surfer stories in general.

As for the tie-ins during the event it just depends on if you're a completionist or not IMO. The Silver Surfer tie-ins gave a good glimpse at what was going on behind the scenes with the plan to defeat Thanos. The Doctor Strange tie-ins gave some good view on what was happening to the heroes when they weren't at the main battle. I would recommend both, but they're far from necessary. There are also some Hulk and Spider-Man tie-ins floating around. I didn't really enjoy them at all but I'm not a huge fan of either of those characters so again, YMMV.

Mmm yeah, it's probably great if you are 10 years old. Or if you were 10 when you first read it and your reading habits haven't changed much. I bypassed the Marvel cosmic universe completely when I was younger, and trying to read this recently made my head hurt.

By giving this 4 stars, I really have to ignore the clunky organization and the tie-ins that are really meaningless (Incredible Hulk, Sleepwalker, and even some of the Doctor Strange Sorceror Supreme issues). The overall story, like may comic events since then, is a little clunky and the tie-ins are meant more to sell comics rather than tell a meaningful tale. That being said, I still fall in love with the cosmic scale of this event just as much as I did when I was a teenager reading it for the first time.

Interesting to see the parallels between AVENGERS:INFINITY WAR and ENDGAME movies and this graphic novel collection. I'm glad I have some knowledge of the comics from reading background pieces on the movies, or I wouldn't know who some of the characters are (and I still don't). I like the idea of comics, but sometimes the stories just don't flow together like I'm used to from non-serial novels.

So I can see some of elements taken from the comic & used in Avengers Infinity War.

Also thought this was hilarious.

Having seen all the Marvel films that were inspired by this comic book story, I fancied reading the original. There are plenty of story differences, which the films did a better job with i think. The main problems are that there are too many characters, a lot of prior history that would be helpful to know, and its not written from a clear POV. One thing that was better was the sense of power that Thanos possessed. The scale of those he could dispatch was much bigger than the films.

3.5 stars. I read this in preparation for the movie and am very curious to see what they do with it.
