I read this while I had a fever, and I'm not sure if it hurt or helped.

Like the Song of Solomon. A love letter from Jane Sagan to John Perry.

I would have loved a full novel rather than just a short story on this one! :) Had there been more, it would have gotten more stars - as it is, it's just too short to get a true feeling of the internal thought process of Jane Sagan.

Overly poetic, but explores some interesting philosophical concepts, the experience of synthesized consciousness, and the power of how much thought you can put into things, given accelerated brainpower and access to the entirety of world knowledge.

A very different short story from Scalzi. He wrote here a fully introspective story from the point of view of a character that we don't see a lot of introspection from on the first two novels.
For me, while there were some points of brilliance, the story as a whole was overly poetic and navel-gazing to be truly enjoyable.

1 star. Unfinished. I read the first two chapters (39%) and skimmed much of the rest. This was philosophical, meandering prose that made little sense and when it did make sense, it had an entertainment value of zero.

This was practically poetry. It was perfect, and such a different vibe from Scalzi's usual work!!! I absolutely loved it. 10/10. The prose was beautiful. I didn't like the narrator choice, but I can live with that
